Concerts that are pulled mid- song because they overrun or break sound restrictions are becoming increasingly common.
Bruce Springsteen had it happen to him at his recent gig in Hyde Park, he overran and the local council couldn’t risk upsetting neighbours with noise disturbances post-11pm so they literally ‘pulled the plug’.
But concert promoters are now realising that there’s a solution, and the organisers of this year’s Penn Festival have been quick off the mark to try it and love it.
One of the council stipulations for the festival was the use of acoustic barriers in the acoustic marquee. Luckily one of the main acts knew just who to call…..his Dad.
Wilson, fronted by brothers Ross and Owen Wilson ( www.wilsonmusic.co.uk) were one of the headline acts in the acoustic marquee and are sons of Echo Barrier technical director Peter Wilson, who was more than happy to supply the Echo Barrier H series to the festival, ensuring his sons’ gig went ahead.
Peter is the brains behind the Echo Barrier acoustic barrier, which is being used all over the UK where noise pollution is a problem. The use of the barriers was a complete success – there were zero complaints, and the rapturous response the band got from the audience was kept within the marquee.
