Shadforths Civil were contracted to remove foundations adjacent to a 2,760 space car park.
This included using machinery used for rock/concrete breaking. The car park with concrete walls and ceilings would act as a conduit for noise, possibly amplifying and redirecting the noise throughout the work site. Minimizing the impacts of noise and maintaining a safe work zone for construction staff meant effective noise controls needed to be put into place.
To mitigate noise, Shadforths Civil created a noise wall using Echo Barrier. The barriers were simply installed onto temporary fencing right next to the work location. This shielded the rock breaker’s noise from reverberating into the car park. After installing the barriers, noise testing was carried out during the use of rock-breaking machinery.
The results met appropriate levels of noise, allowing works to proceed uninterrupted.
Andrew Hussey, on-site engineer with the project, stated: ‘With very tight deadlines in regards to time, Echo Barrier afforded us the opportunity to perform works within site hours whilst not disrupting other trades nearby’”.
Shadforths Civil’s solution in noise control proved to be successful, allowing all works to continue with minimal effects from noisy equipment, working within their set perimeters of time and budget.
Echo Barrier Australia congratulates Shadforths Civil’s use of Echo Barrier for Occupation Health & Safety for all the trades working on this large project and maintaining the high standards of this Lendlease project. T
